I was COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY inspired by Kate at Reading Through Infinity for this post. Her post was just so funny + engaging + interesting and I wanted to do it so bad. Plus, I feel like I haven’t done an ‘about me’ blog post in so long. ON WITH THE FACTS:
// I am a dog-earer. FUN FACT: autocorrect initially thought I meant dog-eater. I don’t eat canines, autocorrect! But I do like to dog-ear my books. I suppose it’s kind of for convenience, and being too lazy to find a proper bookmark, but I do love the look of a battered book.
// Jane Eyre is my fav classic. For a long time it was Pride and Prejudice, and although Lizzie Bennet will always have a special place in my heart, Jane Eyre just did something to me. I LOVED IT, and I need to buy a gorgeous penguin classic edition of it ASAP.
// Middle grade books are the best. I am a HUGE mg reader, and I can’t quite put my finger on why. Maybe it’s because I fell in love with reading as a middle grade-r and so those books hold my heart. I also think it’s something to do with the feel of middle grade books–they almost always have a ‘hopeful’ aspect to them, and I adore that.
// Reading on the train is one of my favourite things to do. Watching the world go by and diving into a story is just magical.
// I used to be a perpetual re-reader. Seriously, all I read (and re-read) was: the Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings, and the Chronicles of Narnia. I’ve branched out a bit since then, but I still love a re-read.
Speaking of which: 6// I read Harry Potter once a year, every December. There’s just something about Hogwarts at Christmas-time.
// I once overloaded my shelves so much they collapsed on me in the middle of the night. I cried, and I had a SERIOUS headache the day after.
// I’m also a writer! I write middle grade (I know, surprise surprise) and I’m represented by super-agent Alice Williams. (Query her, she’s da best!)
// I once saw a lady reading and walking at the same time, and I’ve never been more jealous of anyone in my life. TRUE STORY.
// I volunteer at my local library and it’s the best hobby. I get to interact with readers and read stories, and lead writing workshops. I thoroughly recommend it. Libraries are the best.
// I take at least one book everywhere I go. But more likely it’s two. Seriously, if your car broke down as much as mine does you’d need that amount of entertainment.
// I’m going to YALC this year and I AM SO EXCITED!!!
// If I see a bookshop, I’m going in it. They are magical places, full of wonder and literature and magic, and they might have a book I haven’t picked up yet.
// One of my most treasured books is The Diary of Anne Frank. I picked it up at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam this year. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life.
// My mum’s maiden name was Wilson, and her name is Jackie, so Jaqueline Wilson is actually my mum. I def used to pass it off like THE Jaqueline Wilson was my mum. #SorryMum
// I GENUINELY thought I was going to Hogwarts when I was 11. I’d packed my trunk and everything.
// I’ve met some of the best people through books. My fellow Crone Bloggers are DA BEST, as are my beaut Sisterhood friends, my CP’s (special shout out to superstar Shana), and beta readers. Seriously you guys, bookish people are the best.
// Fav elements in books: witches, fairies, ghosts & pirates. I’m a sucker for anything magical. ALSO: humour. Fart jokes are my hilarity kryptonite.
// Last year I inexplicably read 143 books. HOW? I have no idea. I just reach for a book over a TV programme/movie every time. Books are my no. 1 destress technique–they make me feel calm and happy and ready to face the world.
// The amount of bookish photos I take with my pets is embarrassing. They love it though. Okay, that’s a lie–they hate it but I feed them, and that’s a good enough deal for them!
// Although I love a good romance sub-plot, I never reach for a book that is solely about romance. I’m not sure why, it’s just not my kind of thing! I need kissing with the addition zombies or spells or something equally spectacular.
// I’m not a massive Sarah J Maas fan. (PLZ DON’T YELL AT ME!) I’ve read the first of both her series, and I just wasn’t that impressed. Maybe her new adult series will hook me!
// If I could meet any author, alive or dead, it would probably be Jane Austen. She’s just such a fascinating historical figure, and there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding her life. I’d love to have a cup of tea and a chat with her.
// I am a library lover. The British Library is my fav. SO. MANY. BOOKS!
// Although I prefer reading a physical books, I LOVE listening to audiobooks/reading e-books. Plus, with audiobooks you can read + do chores, which makes me feel VERY productive.
So there you have it. Those are 25 bookish facts about me. That was a super fun post to write, and it’s made me think more about my reading habits! Are you a dog-earer like me, or do you like your books pristine? Let me know in the comments below.
