Tag: Mid-Year Book Freak Out

I know this is a little late, but I’ve loved watching these videos on Booktube over the past few weeks, so I thought I’d participate to see how I’ve done in my reading so far in 2017. If you want to check out the creators of this awesome tag, click here and here.

1. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR THIS YEAR.

THE LIE TREE by Frances Hardinge was ah-mazing! Atmospheric, feminist and original, it’s haunted me ever since.

2. BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR THIS YEAR.

This has to be BEETLE QUEEN, by the absolutely fabulous M. G. Leonard. This was even img_6113-1better than her debut, and that’s saying something, because I adored BEETLE BOY. If you want to experience more of my raving, check out my review here.

3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO.

STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor. I’ve heard so many good things, and can’t wait to get to this.

4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR.

For this question, I have two answers. First up is Mackenzie Lee’s THE GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO VICE AND VIRTUE, which I have on pre-order, and I’m also hella excited for Leigh Bardugo’s WONDER WOMAN: WARBRINGER

5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT.

I’ve tried reading OUTLANDER a few times, most recently this month, but disappointingly I’m going to have to accept that I just get on better with the TV show than the book (I know, book blasphemy!)

6. BIGGEST SURPRISE.

For this one, I’m going with TRUTHWITCH by Susan Dennard. I’d already picked it up before, and put it down after finding it difficult to get into. BUT after picking it up again, I breezed through it, and really enjoyed the story. That just shows how much mood effects reading!

7. FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR. (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU)

This is also pretty easy–the wonderful Kiran Millwood-Hargrave. THE GIRL OF INK AND18118653_1699754130041001_5460625026826957225_n STARS was on my TBR for forever, and after devouring it I immediately reached for THE ISLAND AT THE END OF EVERYTHING. If you like your middle grade full of hope, lyrical and with just a sprinkling of magic, I’d really recommend Kiran’s beautiful books.

8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH.

Darien Freeman from GEEKERELLA was freaking adorable. I mean, he’s basically Prince Charming, right?

9. NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER.

Elliot from WHO LET THE GODS OUT?. I just want to give him a gigantic hug.C9xRw3cXsAATqzs

10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY.

THE PRINCESS SAVES HERSELF IN THIS ONE made me bawl. I related so hard to Amanda’s words.

11. BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY.

IMG_7001QUEENS OF GEEK was pure joy. I grinned from ear to ear after reading this one.

12. FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION YOU SAW THIS YEAR.

Unless you count BEAUTY & THE BEAST, I haven’t seen any!

13. FAVOURITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR.

I read and loved EL DEAFO, a gorgeous middle grade graphic novel, and I’m pretty proud of my review. Check it out here.

14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR (OR RECEIVED)

18199026_1700978803251867_251270236734944454_nI just brought STRANGE THE DREAMER, and it’s so beautiful, I’m pretty sure I dribbled.

15. WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

I *want* to read SIMPLY THE QUEST by Maz Evans, The whole SHADES OF MAGIC trilogy by V. E. Schwab, and more graphic novels!

So that’s my mid-year reading update. How’s your reading going?
