spring & ten things.

As I type this, the sun is shining. I can hear the sound of planes zooming across the cloudless sky outside and I’m already eyeing up my sunglasses box so I can go outside and enjoy the weather. Spring has finally sprung in England. I have to admit, I’m a sucker for bad weather – I love the wind whipping my hair, and the rain plinking onto the pavement and storm clouds rolling across the sky. Buutt, sometimes the sun catches my heart completely, and the first day of really good weather this year has definitely done that. Also, I seem to have gotten a few more blog followers lately (*waves* at new people), so I thought I’d do a kind of ’10 things about me post’.

one. I love drama. Not the reality show type drama that involves slanging matches and things being thrown across the floor, but the type that means line-learning, and audiences and being-so-nervous-you-almost-puke. I did amateur dramatics when I was a kid, all the way up to when I left school. I had a 3 year break, b/c studying Law doesn’t leave much time for hobbies. Then I saw a flyer for a production of ‘Cinderella’ and I was hooked – I got cast as Buttons, and rapidly caught the acting bug. And now I’ve been cast as Dorothy in my towns take on ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Apart from writing, acting on stage is pretty much the scariest thing I do.

two. When I’m really stressed, I light a candle and paint my nails. It helps me concentrate on what really matters, forget about my worries and most importantly, my nails get done! It also helps me be in the moment. I find it’s really easy to get caught up in what-ifs and what-might-have-beens, but sitting on my bed and thinking and painting my nails helps me to appreciate the good.

three. when I need to cook up a story idea, I go on a walk. There’s just something about pounding the ground and staring up at the sky to get my ideas flowing.

four. I’m a Coca Cola fiend. I know it’s so bad for you and it has WAY too much sugar but I am obsessed. At uni, to get an essay done I would buy a six pack and drink all of them in one day! I can’t even think about what harm that was doing to my body. In January this year, I gave up drinking Coke UNLESS I was out for dinner and there was nothing else I liked. Surprisingly it’s gone pretty well so far.

five. Luna Lovegood is my absolute favourite HP character. A crazy-amount of thought has gone into this decision (side note: am I the only person who, when bored, immediately gravitates to thinking about important HP questions like: what house would I really be sorted into? And what pet would I take to Hogwarts? ). I love Luna because she is a free-spirit, and totally unashamed of that. At school I was very much a reluctant Hermione – too afraid to be who I really was. Luna really helped me to come out of my shell a bit. (ALSO: I want her radish earrings!).

six. I’m a notepad collector. And I carry one everywhere I go.

seven. Middle grade fiction is my heart. Some of my recent favourites are THE GIRL WHO RACED FAIRYLAND ALL THE WAY HOME by Cat Valente, THE MYSTERY OF THE JEWELLED MOTH by Katherine Woodfine and FORTUNE FALLS by Jenny Goebel.

eight. I’m pretty nerdy. I love Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings and of course Harry Potter. I also own an Nintendo 3ds (Seriously Animal Crossing: New Leaf is just the best!!) and I’m really getting into graphic novels. Nerdy-ness is pretty cool in my book <3.

nine. I dye my hair WAY TOO much. It’s been red, blonde, brown, black, purple, pink-ish, green-y (after the purple) and ombre.

ten. I’m an autumn person. It’s my absolute favourite time of year. I love the chill in the air, and the crunch of golden leafs beneath my feet. I love the smell of bonfire, and that Halloween, and Fireworks Night and Christmas are on their way.

So those are ten random facts about me, and now I’m going back to writing!
