#FicFest: Meet Team TAHITI (MG)

Hello lovely people! Today is ‘Meet the team’ day for #FicFest and I am SO EXCITED to introduce you to the best team of all: TEAM TAHITI!!

And not just because of the awesome Marvel/Agents of Shields references I will be making throughout this contest. Tahiti is truly b-e-a-utiful! I could look at these photos all day.

 All about Tahiti

Tahiti is the largest of the islands that make up the French Polynesia. It’s home to 127,000 people and located in the Pacific Ocean. Tahiti is famous for it’s mountainous landscape, lush rainforests and sandy beaches

Tahiti is known for, among other things, the traditional dance otea, which is often confused with the Hawaiian hula dance. The national spot is Va’a,  a paddle spot that involves canoes. The Tahitians frequently set world records in this spot.

The Tahitian philosophy to life is ‘aita pea pea’ or not to worry – a beautiful sentiment for a beautiful island. 🙂

So without further ado, let me introduce you to my awesome team members:

Chase, Neal_08b

To many, Neal Chase appears to be a mild-mannered attorney with horrible taste in footwear, opting to wear custom Converse sneakers or cowboy boots instead of dress shoes. But to those who know him, he is actually a Playstation playing, football coaching, world domination planning author. Neal is represent by Mark Gottlieb of Trident Media Group, and his debut novel, a MG fantasy, is scheduled to be released this fall.

Neal is looking for:

I am primarily interested in speculative fiction (mainly fantasy and sci fi), something that offers an escape from the real word.I also like stories which have some appeal to boys, since they are often reluctant readers. Some popular examples are Harry Potter (early ones), Percy Jackson (also the earlier ones), and The False Prince. I like the MG characters to be age appropriate (not a big fan of books which claim to be MG, but the MC is 16 y/o) and deal with issues/subject matter which MG kids understand and can relate too. To put it into list form, ideally, I’m looking for fantasy or sci fi with a male MC or very strong secondary male character.

Candice Marley Conner loves all the fairy tales and has to take turns with her 5 year old and 2 year old on who gets to be the villain. Evil cackles have been mastered by all. She is represented by Lotus Lane Literary and has a YA mystery and MG magical realism/fairytale retelling out on submission.

I’m looking for intelligence wrapped in whimsy, with a dash of wonder. I want to see something ordinary in a brand new way and adventures that make my toes tingle.

Laura Noakes is from a sleepy village in Bedfordshire, England. She likes Earl Grey tea, pugs, reading ALL the books she can get her hands on, dance parties and Aidan Turner. She is currently querying her first novel, a spooky middle grade fantasy about ghosts, curses and hope.

Laura is looking for:

My taste runs pretty wide in MG – I will read any genre, although I have a serious soft spot for fantasy. More specifically, this is what I want to see in my inbox:

  • Mystery – I am a sucker for mysteries at the moment. I adore the MURDER MOST UNLADYLIKE series by Robin Stevens and THE MYSTERY OF THE CLOCKWORK SPARROW by Katherine Woodfine. I would love a contemporary mystery that keeps me on my toes till the very end.
  • Funny, imaginative books in the vein of THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN WITCHES by Lauren Magaziner or HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON by Cressida Cowell.
  • Fantasy with lush world-building (think THE DREAMSNATCHER by Abi Elphinstone).
  • Books with just a hint of magic.
  • Creepy, spooky MG with heart like CORALINE by Neil Gaiman & THE ACCIDENTAL AFTERLIFE OF THOMAS MARSDEN
  • I am most definitely after diverse books that deal with issues in a realistic manner (PoC, LGTBQA, mental health, disability, gender, religion) – I loved BETTER NATE THAN EVER.
  • Historical – I am a history geek. I am always fascinated with the Victorian/Edwardian era, but I would love to find something historical that focuses is set outside Europe.

Team Tahiti is on the look out for all of your amazing middle grade goodness, SO PLEASE SEND IT TO US! And be sure to check out the other team reveals.

Laura 🙂
