I recently returned from the magical (seriously) land of Cornwall, so I thought that I would do a blogpost on what I did and what I read. Cornwall is a county in the south-west of England, and it is seriously beautiful. There are beautiful beaches, and cool museums and bookshops, so basically it’s my happy place. Here is a snapshot of my time there.
This was Boscastle, a beautiful little town. They have a Museum of Witchcraft (!!!!) and loads of the shops were witch themed. I thought this was the coolest thing ever. (And yes I did visit the witch museum and now I feel much more like my ultimate heroine, Hermione Granger.
This is my brother, who is a philosophy student, looking very philosophical. 😉
These pictures are from an Otter Sanctuary we visited. The otters were VERY cute (and apparently had very pointy teeth), but there were also lots of other animals. A herd (is that the correct term?) of wallaby were there (I got to stroke a baby one and then died of happiness), and then I held a bird (I’m grimacing because I have zero upper body strength and that bird was heavy) and some BEAUTIFUL deer.
This is a beach in England. Can you believe that? Because I still kind of can’t! We had great weather on our first day and I spent the day going red and reading at the beach.
As you can see mum and I were EXTREMELY excited about our holiday! I also did a LOT of reading on holiday. Here are some short but sweet reviews:
Overall I really enjoyed the conclusion of this time-travelling trilogy. I thought Gwen was a fantastic (and funny) main character, and although I wasn’t that surprised by the ending, I thought it was written really well!
I ADORED this book. Sophie Kinsella is an amazing writer, and she dealt with mental health in such a realistic way. This book made me cry. On multiple occasions. GO READ IT!
A gorgeously written, beautifully executed MG tale that was so original. Brilliant, brilliant book – I can’t believe it sat on my TBR shelve for as long as it did. VERY excited for the sequel.
Engrossing thriller that is impossible to (A) predict and (B) put down.
If this book could be summed up in two words it would be: WHIMSY & PIRATES. Oh, and AWESOME – completely and utterly awesome.
BETTER NATE THAN EVER has stolen my heart away and I’m not sure I want it back.
So, in summary, Cornwall was amazing. I laughed a lot, ate WAY too much food and read loads of great books. I came back feeling refreshed and optimistic and excited about continuing with my WIP. Basically, it was the best holiday ever!
It looks like you had an amazing time, Laura! I’ve never visited Cornwall but your photographs are giving me serious seaside envy – I really must take a trip there soon 🙂 You read some really fantastic books while you were away too, Hook’s Revenge sounds ever so cute and I have heard some amazing things about Better Nate Than Never. Also, how adorable are you photos of the wallaby and deer?! Awwww!
Hope that you’re having a lovely week 🙂 xx
Completely missed this comment but THANK YOU! Cornwall was wonderful – it’s one of my favourite places! I nearly had to be dragged away from the deer and wallaby they were that cute! 🙂
