Treats & Reads #2

It’s been FAR too long since I did my first Treats & Reads so I decided this week to do another one. I am going to make this a semi-regular feature, but unfortunately there is not going to be much regularity in posting for the next month. It’s exam time again and soon my life will become a cycle of revision, stress eating and not doing much reading/blogging/vlogging which sucks! But, after the exams comes SUMMER! YAY!

Anyway, that is enough of my little life update, on with the food and the reading…

Hot Cross Buns. Granted it’s a simple ‘treat’ (although I promise the next one will involve actual cooking!) but It’s nearly Easter and they are so darn yummy. These ones are shop brought (bad I know) and then I just shove them in the toaster until they are golden brown, then smear some butter on them. PERFECT. And the book

It’s Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys. I adored Ruta’s first book, Between Shades of Grey and my feelings for Out of the Easy are no different. Here is the Goodreads synopsis:

“It’s 1950, and as the French Quarter of New Orleans simmers with secrets, seventeen-year-old Josie Moraine is silently stirring a pot of her own. Known among locals as the daughter of a brothel prostitute, Josie wants more out of life than the Big Easy has to offer.

She devises a plan get out, but a mysterious death in the Quarter leaves Josie tangled in an investigation that will challenge her allegiance to her mother, her conscience, and Willie Woodley, the brusque madam on Conti Street. Josie is caught between the dream of an elite college and a clandestine underworld. New Orleans lures her in her quest for truth, dangling temptation at every turn, and escalating to the ultimate test.

With characters as captivating as those in her internationally bestselling novel Between Shades of Gray, Ruta Sepetys skillfully creates a rich story of secrets, lies, and the haunting reminder that decisions can shape our destiny.”
