‘Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.
This is not that world.
Art student and monster’s apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.
In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.
While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope.
But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?’
THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD!
Karou has gone through some major character development since the beginning of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. She is struggling with her past, and trying to save her people from the angels onslaught. I really empathised with Karou – she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, she felt really guilty about loving Akiva and helping to hurt her people, and on the other she is now trying to help, and none of them trust her. She’s definitely hardened, and is less trusting then the first book, and it was good to see a different side of her.
Akiva is also going through some issues. He is pining after Karou, who he believes to be dead. He is trying so so hard to be a better person, and on his journey to redemption as the reader we get to learn a tonne more about him – there is definitely more insight into who Akiva is.
Zusanna is my absolute favourite character. She is SO funny, and her and Mik are really cute. I love how supportive she is of Karou, and I want to see a TONNE more of her in the next book.
I liked the first book in this series, but I loved DOBAS, mainly because of the plot differences. The second half of the first book was slow moving, and dragged slightly. The second book totally made up for that. It was action packed, there was always something going on and the alternating perspectives really kept the book fresh. I got through it really quickly and its a really big book.
Again, Laini Taylor CAN write. This book was beautifully written and I loved it.
I thought Days of Blood and Starlight was a worthy successor to Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I am SO excited for the third book in the series to be released.
I love this book series…SO good!
