Happy Tuesday! I hope you are all having a good day (I know I am – Its my birthday and I got books!!!). Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week we are listing the top ten books we thought we’d like more or less then we did!
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – A long, long time ago, when I had never heard of dystopian, I read the synopsis of The Hunger Games and made a face I usually reserve for mouldy food. It didn’t sound like a book I would like. Eventually after people telling me that I HAD to read it, I did and fell in love with dystopian novels.
- The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – Shocker! I know – everybody LOVES TFIOS! And so do I, but I think the massive hype that went with the book exceeded my expectations, and I felt ever so slightly let down when I finally finished it.
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – I don’t know why I didn’t think I would like this as much as I did, but I ADORED The Night Circus, and I definitely need to re-read it!
- The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne – I had very mixed feelings about this book!! I’m still not one hundred percent sure whether I like it or not. Definitely liked it less then I thought I would.
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer – Again, I didn’t think Cinder would be my cup of tea – but I loved it, and Scarlett is definitely on my summer TBR list.
- The Spindlers by Lauren Oliver – Again, I didn’t hate this book, I just think my expectations were to high – Lauren is one of my favourite authors!! I liked The Spindlers, but not as much as I thought I would.
- The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness – This book kicked off my 2012 reading year! I had never read anything like it before, and I loved it. I am yet to finish the trilogy, but I will! Such a good read.
- Tithe by Holly Black – Loved the concept, but the book was such a let down for me. I really didn’t enjoy it, although I liked the second book Valiant a little better.
- The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan – My cousins lent me this book on holiday, and I didn’t pick it up for ages because (stupidly) I though it looked childish. And now, it is one of my FAVOURITE series!!
- The Nightmare Factory by L. A Jones – Another one where I loved the concept, but the book just wasn’t for me!
Laura 🙂
The Lightning Thief was a big surprise for me, too!
Here’s my Top Ten List of Books I Never Expected to Like.
So glad you enjoyed the Night Circus. It has to be loved. I also really have to get my @$$ into gear and read Cinder. Like yesterday. Same goes for Hunger games.
Great list!

Its SO good! I definitely need to pick up the rest of the trilogy! Thanks for following 🙂
Happy Birthday Laura!
Thank you! 🙂
So awesome you mentioned Cinder ad The Lightening Thief. I felt the same way- wasn’t sure about them but ended up loving them!
Great list!

Totally agree about TFIOS it’s on my list too for not living up to its hype. I also found The Knifeof Never Letting Go really good unexpectedly the rest of the series is good too.
I NEED to get my hands on the rest of the series soon!! 🙂
The Night Circus also made it on to my list as a book I thought I’d enjoy less than I did.
Happy Birthday… I do wonder what books you received.
Thank you! Lol – I received quite a few! Will definitely be doing a book haul sometime this week! 🙂
Yay for the Percy love! I adore him. And I agree about Cinder. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it!
