Yay, Top Ten Tuesday is here! If you don’t know it is a weekly book meme that’s hosted by the lovely people at The Broke and the Bookish. This week is the top ten bookish memories, although because I’m meant to be working in about five minutes, I’m going to be cheeky and do five
- The day the final Harry Potter was released, I was travelling into France so I couldn’t get hold of it anyway. I was devastated. I may have cried. Then I spotted that one of the boys I was onΒ holiday withΒ had it. He was lovely enough to lend it to me and I read all day and all night until I was finished.
- When I read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I think there are some books that just touch you, and this was one of them. It introduced me to one of my favourite authors and made me realise how good middle grade books should be.
- Reading the Hunger Games. I must have read the Hunger Games early last year, and I really loved it. But the reason why its on of my favourite bookish memories is that it turned me on to YA novels. Before then I hadn’t got a clue about YA and its fabulous sub-genres and now, I am a YA addict!!
- My dad read The Hobbit to me over and over again when I was a little girl. I was entranced by the story completely, and I don’t think that if he hadn’t read The Hobbit to me, that I would be so bookish today! So thanks dad.
- Okay so this is more of an on-going thing but I love the book blogging world! Its introduced me to so many amazing books, I’ve made some great friends and I just love been part of it.
Hope you are all having a fabulous week!
Laura
The book blogging world does introduce a lot of new books to try out π
It does – its one of the many things I love about the blogging world! π
Joining the book community is a memory I will always hold. I have learnt so much and been introduced, as I’m sure we all have, to so many new books.
My Top Ten Tuesday
Yep, me too – I wouldn’t have read so many great books if it weren’t for the book community! Thanks for stopping by π
My Mom used to read The Hobbit to me and my sisters! She’s a huge sci-fi/ fantasy fan and I’ve always loved The HOBBIT. What a classic!
I know – its AMAZING! I wouldn’t be the reader I am today if my dad hadn’t read it to me as a kid! Aren’t parents who love books great? π
Great list, I remember the final HP book. I was really happy but super scared at the same time. And super super sad after finishing it… And glad I knew enough English to get a hold of the copy because a translation took forever.
My TTT
Me too – I devoured that book though! They actually gave me an award on that holiday – The Fastest Reader Award – because I spent all my time reading it! π
I think it’s great that you and your dad share such a great memory!
HP must be on everyone’s list today, JK Rowling would be proud π
It’s great to hear other bookish memories, and get a different perspective!

I know – its so cool that HP is a special memory for so many of us! Thanks for stopping by π
I so know that feeling of a book being released and you cannot get it for some reason… hahaha. Good you could borrow it though π
I was so desperate that day – I would have done ANYTHING to get my hands on it!! Lol π
I’ve been short on time, so I did a shorter list this week too (seven). You picked some great ones, though! I don’t know what I would have done if I had been away from home the day Deathly Hallows came out!
My Top Ten Tuesday
Thank you – yep I remember having a complete meltdown when I realised and nagging my parents for weeks to change the date!!
The one bad thing about being part of such a community is that your TBR list becomes slightly unmanageable. . .at least mine does! I still haven’t read The Graveyard Book. Maybe this will be the year?
I have that problem too! But I definitely recommend reading The Graveyard Book – its one of my favourites! π
Great books, great memories and I really like the look of your blog. I love a bit of Tolkien, Potter and Gaiman too! xx
Ah thank you! Your blog is beautiful! Thanks for stopping by π
Thanks Laura, I’ll keep up with your posts so we can chat about books some more x
I LOVE the Graveyard book!!
Girl after my own heart! π
#4 about your Dad is so sweet! Sometimes I get a little burnt out on YA, but I really do love all the different genres and it annoys me when these books get put down all the time as not “good enough” and all the hulabaloo about how adults shouldn’t read them — there are a lot of really GOOD books that are YA if only some of the haters would give them a fair chance!
Totally agree – YA is such a great genre, and somewhat looked down upon by people who think that the writing/plots are juvenile – but actually I think that they are sometimes much more imaginative then books written for adults! π
For someone who says they’re not so keen on ‘young adult’ novels, you’ve sure picked a lot in your list! I did very much enjoy Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and The Hobbit, though – they’re just great books. (Not read the Gaiman one.)
I think they are definitely growing on me! But middle grade is still my favourite! π
