Booking Through Thursday

Cover Story Part 1

They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but there’s no question that it can make a difference! What book(s) have your favorite covers? Something that’s perfect for the story, the tone, the colors, the mood… And did you pick up the book BECAUSE of the cover? Or were you going to read it anyway, and the cover was just serendipitous?

I am ashamed to say that I do judge books by their covers. I love a beautiful cover, and I do buy books purely because of their covers (I know – I am very bad). Although I rave about the books enough anyway I absolutely love the Fairyland books by Cat Valente.

I just think they are absolutely beautiful – quirky looking and with a vintage feel. I think the best covers represent the story – and the fairyland books do that beautifully. I cannot wait to see the next book cover in the series. I didn’t pick fairyland purely for the cover – it was the summary on Goodreads that clinched it for me! The cover was just the icing on the cake for me!

Cover Story Part 2

Are there any good books that you read IN SPITE OF the cover and ended up wondering what on earth the artist and publisher were thinking to pair up a cover that so badly represented a perfectly good book?

And … if you didn’t like the cover, what made you pick up the book? The author? Assigned reading from school? A recommendation from a friend?

I have to say, although I regularly buy books because of their covers, a cover has never put me off before. I would never not read a book because of the cover, and I have to say although there are covers I LOVE I’ve never come across one I hate!

Laura 🙂
